  REVIEW:

If you’re wondering why they titled it Employee of the Month . . . well, all we can say is that calling it Movie of the Month – definitely NOT an option!

This movie is hyping up the fact that it was produced by the same guys that brought us Wedding Crashers.  It’s possible the hype might be a diversion to keep us from noticing the movie is also produced by Jessica Simpson’s father, Joe Simpson.  Now that we know, it does go a long way to explain why this movie is such a disaster.  Zack (Dane Cook) is a slacker and Vince (Dax Shepard) is an over achiever that work together at a super store like Costco.  Amy (Jessica Simpson) is a cashier at the store that is rumored to only date Employees of the Month.  When Zack and Vince find this out, it becomes a lame game of who can win the next employee of the month and get Amy’s attention.  Unfortunately, after sitting through this movie, the audience seems more concerned about making a made rush for the exits then caring at all of either guys gets the girl.

Dane Cook is definitely a likable guy and a successful comedian.  His movie Employee of the Month, though . . . only SLIGHTLY funnier than the Fandango commercials.  It’s just very sad, so much so that you might find yourself wanting to send Dane a fruit basket or something because you feel so bad for him.  The bad acting was expected – Dax Shepard and Jessica Simpson, come on!  And a silly, sort of ridiculous story – fine!  But with the comedic power of Dane Cook, Andy Dick, and Harland Williams, it’s hard to believe that they didn’t manage to squeeze out a single laugh-out-loud line between them.  They didn’t.  There’s a few chuckles, but it’s just too toned down, too reserved, too cutesy to have any hope of being funny.

  MOVIE NIGHT TRAFFIC LIGHT:

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate Employee of the Month RED.  Stop – we were hoping for a fun movie and were very disappointed…don’t do it!
